United

The match between Manchester United and Nottingham Forest in the Premier League proved to be very entertaining as both clubs were eager to leave an impression in the 2024/25 season. Erik ten Hag’s team was looking for better form after having struggled in the last few weeks while on the other hand, Nottingham Forest were hoping to build on their strong start to the season thanks to Steve Cooper’s management. With the two teams battling in front of a supportive home crowd, the match held high significance for both clubs.

Beginning: High Handedness of United

The contest commenced with United taking control of the match early on, as they did not take long to set the tone, starting from the very first whistle out. Bruno Fernandes, Christian Eriksen, and Casemiro took charge of the center and turned into the centerpieces, directing the flow of the football game. United’s objective was clear, they wanted to breach Forest’s defense by executing powerful and precise passes, and they played with aggressiveness and determination to do so.

Having scored two goals on his last two outings alongside helping set up one more, Marcus Rashford was finding it easier picking apart the left wing and looking for Højlund at the center. It was Højlund’s United debut and he looked eager to score. He tested Turner’s patience and skills by attempting to shoot from distance almost right away, something he was surely capable of doing.

They have allowed other united players to handle the ball in the first five minutes and instead set up to play on the break which was effective for them but at the same time not too aggressive.

Although Taiwo Awoniyi and Morgan Gibbs-White proved to be a serious threat not only in this match but rather throughout the entire competition, their pace was still a cause of concern for the united defense.

Still, it was United who managed to go on the attack first in the 21st minute. A corner taken by Bruno Fernandes was brilliantly delivered into the box and eagerly anticipated by Raphaël Varane who flew above a crowded set of Forest defenders to make his header which sailed past Turner. The goal was a typical United goal, and a textbook set piece goal that enabled the Red Devils to go up 1-0.

They made a rapid attempt to come back into the game, directing it through Gibbs-White who was looking for other players who would in turn assist Awoniyi and Emmanuel Dennis into the game, all which proved very difficult as the defense headed by Varane and Lisandro Martínez were on point and stopping all the clear goal attempts Forest made.

Nottingham Forest showed more preparedness in the later minutes of the game as they were desperate for a goal. With fresh legs, Forest came off stronger, which made Steve Cooper bring in Gustavo Scarpa for Orel Mangala. Gustavo Scarpa brought a better creative edge to Forest’s midfield as they now looked more threatening all over the position.

Forest just kept increasing the attacking pressure and in the 55th minute, their efforts were finally rewarded.

After Serge Aurier lifted a cross to the back by the right byline for Taiwo Awoniyi, the Nigerian forward demonstrated great technique as he skillfully volleyed the ball into the net making the game very lively. The goal sent waves of ecstasy among the traveling fans, and the match sparked fires at Old Trafford.

As the match became more even, goal hungry players in both squads were launching attempts around the keeper, with Rashford being a constant nuisance who almost managed to score one after breaking through Forest’s line of defense. Turner was forced to step up and pulled off some great saves to keep his team afloat. Forest’s goal keeper was also able to deflect Højlund’s header away from the goal line as United increased their pressure to get another goal.

It was commendable of Forest to not sit back after equalizing the score, but rather push onto goal. Awoniyi and Gibbs-White worked well in tandem with each other, which spelled danger for United’s defense. On the other hand, Dean Henderson, who plays for United but is on loan at Forest was busy saving attempts for the team to remain in the competition.

Closing Stages and Added Tension

As the match started nearing the end both teams were in search of that important goal that will turn the tides of the game. United were given a free kick during the 82rd minute of the game which was taken by Bruno Fernandes from a decent range, but it was saved by Turner.

As both teams went all out in their attempts to win, the match was getting heated and more interesting to watch.

In the last few minutes of the game, united was able to strike. A throw in by Luke Shaw met Rasmus Højlund in the penalty box and the Danish striker perfectly headed the ball this time past Matt Turner, putting United up 2-1. A goal still worth celebrating as the home supporters manage to see Højlund finally score his first ever goal for the club resulting into Højlund’s name being remembered within the stadium.

The united defense held firm with David De Gea to help them make one last crucial defense by blocking an attempt by Awoniyi to equalize the game. As a final result, Forest had one last run but united made sure to end the game strong.

At this point Everyone knew the match was tensions as strong as two competitors fighting hand to hand, the final whistle was blown and Manchester United came out victorious with the game ending 2-1.

As a result of the head on head match, Erik ten Haig’s team is now able to step close towards being the center of the premier league glory as they able to walk away with three points while being under pressure.
